Funerals Guide

A funeral service offering the highest standards

Arranging a funeral is not an easy process when a loved one has died. Our staff are experienced in dealing with grief and helping clients who require assistance in these difficult times. We are happy to assist you every step of the way through the process from making the funeral arrangements to post funeral support. We pride ourselves on our attention to detail and to addressing the wishes of you and your loved one.

Making the funeral arrangements

Funerals are changing. People are becoming more aware of the alternatives available to them. Each funeral is individual because each family is different.

Every funeral arrangement should be appropriate for the person who has died and for the bereaved. Whether this is something simple or more elaborate, we are here to ensure that the best possible ceremony takes place. Please feel free to discuss any particular or unusual requests - our advice is free and without obligation. As funeral directors, we are here to help and advise you in whatever way we can. Our staff are fully trained, professional and sympathetic to your needs. Arrangements can be made at one of our offices or in the comfort of your own home.

Apart from registering the death, we will, with your considered instructions attend to all the details required. We will take responsibility for organising the chosen venue for the funeral service (if appropriate) and the committal and for securing the services of an appropriate minister or officiant. This could be for any religion or indeed, no religion (e.g. humanist or civil celebrant) if desired.

You will need to decide the type of funeral you require i.e. burial or cremation.

Burial:

The most common forms of burial are in a new or re-opened grave, normally in cemeteries or churchyards, subject to local regulations and availability. There are alternatives such as woodland burial. If you wish to consider any of these options we will give you the necessary advice and assistance.

Cremation:

If cremation is chosen there may be a chapel service with a short committal at the crematorium, or a civil or memorial service separate from the cremation ceremony. Crematoria local to this area are West Herts Crematorium (Garston), New Southgate Crematorium, Enfield Crematorium, Golders Green Crematorium, Hendon Crematorium (Mill Hill), St Marylebone Crematorium (East Finchley), Islington Crematorium (High Road, East Finchley) and Harwood Park Crematorium (Knebworth). However, we can make arrangements for you with any crematorium throughout the United Kingdom. .

Following a cremation, you will need to decide what will happen to the cremated remains. We recommend that you allow enough time to consider all options.. We will be happy to advise you on all options, local regulations and the costs involved. We offer a wide range of urns and caskets as well as other keepsakes. Details are available at our offices.

Natural, 'Green' and Woodland Burials

A woodland burial ground provides an alternative to a traditional cemetery or churchyard. The Natural or 'Green' burial occurs in a burial ground managed on ecologically sound lines to minimise environmental damage. Generally gravestones or permanent graveside memorials are not permitted. Funeral Costs

Funerals are rapidly changing. Some people prefer a very basic service whilst others wish to deliver a completely personalised service with a number of customised additions such as additional funeral vehicles, flower arrangements and tailor-made coffins or caskets.

We are happy to discuss costs and provide a quotation. Details of our charges are fully available and an enquiry may be made without obligation and in the strictest confidence.

We will make you aware of the cost at the initial stages of the arrangements and we will update you accordingly if any additional services or alterations are required. Once the funeral arrangements have been agreed, we ask you to sign our funeral-costing form (estimate) thereby contracting us to complete the funeral in accordance with your instructions and confirming your agreement to settle all costs.

The estimate is divided into two separate parts, the funeral directors charges and disbursements (i.e. payments to Clergy / officients, Crematorium or Cemetery, Doctors, Newspapers etc. as required or instructed). We are not responsible for setting these disbursement fees. We simply collect them and pass them on to the various authorities. Disbursements are payable to the Company by the client prior to the funeral.

The final account will be rendered to the client a few days after the funeral (unless requested earlier) and full payment is expected within 30 days of the invoice date.

All major credit cards are accepted for payment for funeral and memorial expenses over £50.00.

Assistance with funeral expenses

Subject to your personal circumstances, help may be available which could enable you to obtain a contribution from the Social Fund towards funeral costs. Please ask for further details.
