Company History

Chas A. Nethercott & Son Ltd has been owned and run by the Nethercott family for three generations.

Nethercott's was founded in 1911 by Charles Arlingham Nethercott on one very important principle, namely to provide a courteous, friendly and caring service to families and support them in their greatest time of need.

Cuthbert Nethercott, (the present owner's late father) entered the firm in 1932 and expanded the company so it achieved limited status in 1944. Two years later the present main office and chapels of rest opened at 150 Darkes Lane, Potters Bar that was run by Peter Nethercott (Cuthbert's brother). Alice Annie Nethercott, wife of Charles Arlingham Nethercott, died in 1948, leaving everything under the control of Cuthbert Nethercott.

Charles Nethercott, Cuthbert's son, joined the company in 1969 as a trainee and later became a director in 1976, and managing director in 1983. In 1985 a branch was opened at 20 Aldenham Road, Radlett and in 2006 a new branch was opened at 98 Shenley Road, Borehamwood, offering the same services and facilities as the main office at Potters Bar.

Today Charles Nethercott remains the managing director, assisted by his wife, and fellow director  Elizabeth Nethercott.

Stephen Richardson (Dip. F. D), joined the firm in May 2001 as the Senior Manager having worked in the profession since 1990, and heads a professional and dedicated team.

As well as arranging funerals the company also offers a comprehensive range of memorials, enabling Nethercott's to provide a complete service for families.

Chas A. Nethercott & Son is an independent family funeral director and aims to offer a personal service conducted with reverence, dignity and compassion, for families in their time of need.

Chas A. Nethercott & Son Ltd is a member of the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (S.A.I.F), a professional association, consisting of independent, family controlled funeral directors. Charles is a founding member of S.A.I.F and was National President in 2007/8.
